I finally removed the floppy disk drive from my desktop. I don’t know why it took me so long, except that it wasn’t in the way of anything. Living with a small, inquisitive child means either making hardware changes at night or keeping the work brief, and timing it so that he still has enough metaphorical spoons to keep his hands to himself.

Last Days of the Floppy Disk
The last days of the floppy diskette are approaching: Sony will stop selling them in Japan next year.
No word on how long they’ll continue selling them in the US…but when was the last time you saw a new computer with a floppy disk drive?

I found this 3.5″ floppy disk on the ground while exploring a section of disused railroad track running through an industrial park.
Update (December 2010): These tracks have since been ripped out and paved over with concrete as a pedestrian walkway to the Tustin Metrolink station.
