Peanuts in Thin Mints Nestle Crunch
I was at the store the other day and noticed that they had a limited edition Thin Mints-flavored Nestle Crunch, based on the classic Girl Scout cookie. I had to pick it up. But when I looked at the ingredients, I was in for a surprise:
Ground peanuts.
Why they put ground peanuts in the Crunch/Thin Mints mashup, I couldn’t say, because peanuts aren’t in either Nestle Crunch or Thin Mints. (Not on purpose, anyway, though they do list a cross-contact warning.) And nothing in the packaging except for the ingredients and allergy statement makes any mention of it. The candy bar isn’t labeled as Crunch + Thin Mints + Peanuty Goodness, it’s just labeled as Crunch + Thin Mints.
This is why clear labeling is important: I would never have expected to find peanuts in a combination of two things that don’t have peanuts in them.
Fruit Basket Case
In addition to chips and candy, we have healthy snack options in the break room at work. In some cases it’s a matter of buzzword compliance: Sorry, but using non-GMO organic natural ingredients does NOT make potato chips, popcorn, Cheez-it clones and cookies “healthy” by any stretch of the imagination.
But in some cases it’s actually an improvement. Like fresh fruit. The fruit goes pretty fast, too…but not all at the same rate.
Bananas tend to disappear first, usually by lunchtime on the day it’s delivered. Then apples and pears. Oranges stick around for a few days, sometimes until the next week’s delivery.
It’s a clear pattern: People are picking fruit based on how easy it is to eat at your desk.
Pumpkin Spice ALL the things! (And we mean ALL!)
Cookies, salsa, breakfast cereal (two kinds!), barbecue sauce, soup, applesauce, hard cider…
and Pumpkin Spice Kale Chips.
That’s it, I’m out.
Limited edition soda cans. OK, fine….HOW?
I guess collecting is sort of the point with a lot of media tie-in packaging (well, that and cross-promotion, of course), but I really have to wonder how people typically collect food packages. I mean, do you keep the can unopened and hope it doesn’t leak? Do you drink it even though the can won’t be in mint condition anymore?
Oh no. I just had a horrible thought about those Minions-labeled bananas!
