The collision between the DC and Marvel Comics universes left
them combined into one. Additionally, certain beings have the ability to create amalgam characters
of their own. Here are some of the characters formed from combining DC’s
speedsters with Marvel characters.
Character | Amalgam Of | Source |
---|---|---|
Mercury | Impulse / Quicksilver | JLX |
Speed Demon I | Flash II / Etrigan / Ghost Rider IV | Speed Demon |
Speed Demon II | Flash III / Etrigan / Ghost Rider V | Speed Demon |
The Whiz | Flash I / Whizzer I | Super-Soldier: Man of War |
Xcel | XS / Meanstreak | Spider-Boy Team-Up |

[Cannonflash] | Flash III / Cannonball | DC/Marvel: All Access #4 |
Quick Freeze | Impulse / Iceman | Unlimited Access #4 |
Mercury
Amalgam of: Impulse, Quicksilver
Granted super-speed powers by his mutant heritage, Mercury joined the Judgment League Avengers. When anti-mutant hysteria culminated in the framing of his teammate Mariner, he and the other mutant members of the team broke off, seeking Mariner’s underwater home of Atlantis for keys to the dawn of mutants and proof of Mariner’s innocence. Subsequent legislation called the Armageddon Agenda led to an all-out war on mutants, which Mercury escaped by following Iriskani (Iris West/Askani) into the future.
Appearances: JLX #1 (April 1996)
Speed Demon I
Amalgam of: Flash (Barry Allen), Etrigan, Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze)
Blaze Allen, daredevil and mystic, refused to serve the Night Spectre in collecting souls of power. The Night Spectre retaliated by taking the soul of Blaze’s bride Iris on their wedding day. Then approached by Merlin, Blaze agreed to join with the demon Etrigan to fight the Night Spectre and perhaps get Iris back...or at least grant her peace.
Appearances: Speed Demon #1 (April 1996)
Speed Demon II
Amalgam of: Flash (Wally West), Etrigan, Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch)
One night Wally West walked into his uncle Blaze Allen’s trailer and saw the Speed Demon transform into his uncle. Blaze explained why he had bonded with the demon Etrigan, then left to again fight the Night Spectre. Merlin then apperared to Wally, offering him a chance to help his uncle. But Merlin never told him what demon he was bonding to, and Blaze learned the Night Spectre had joined with a human host...
Appearances: Speed Demon #1 (April 1996)
The Whiz
Amalgam of: Flash (Jay Garrick), Whizzer I
Founding Member of the All-Star Winners Squadron during World War II. Little else is known.
(Unfortunately, in his only appearance, the Whiz kept zooming around in the background so that in no frame was his entire costume visible. What can be seen is that he has a yellow long-sleeved shirt with a red lightning bolt on the front, blue pants, red belt and boots, and a yellow helmet with a stylized W on the front. Also, the Marvel component is the original Whizzer, not the one from Squadron Supreme.)
Appearances: Super-Soldier: Man of War (June 1997)
Xcel
Amalgam of: XS, Meanstreak(?)
Member of the Legion of Galactic Guardians 2099 (post-reboot). A series of time mishaps involving Spider-Boy resulted in the future being altered significantly; however, nothing else is known about this particular member of the team.
Appearances: Spider-Boy Team-Up #1 (June 1997)
Cannonflash
Amalgam of: Flash (Wally West), Cannonball
Unnamed pseudo-amalgam created by Dr. Strangefate (along with several other members of the X-Men and the JLA) in order to recreate the Amalgam Universe. “Cannonflash” has been suggested, but I prefer “Cannonball Runner.”
Appearances: DC/Marvel: All Access #4 (February 1997)
Quick Freeze
Amalgam of: Impulse, Iceman
Pseudo-amalgam created by Access. Member of the X-League.
Appearances: Unlimited Access #4 (March 1998)
