[Polaris]
Real Name: Dr. Neal Emerson
Other Aliases: Doctor Polaris
Occupation: Scientist, now Criminal and Would-Be Conqueror
Base of Operations: Mobile
First Appearance: Green Lantern v.2 #21 (June 1962)

A researcher in magnetism, Dr. Neal Emerson was able to demonstrate his field’s use in medicine; unfortunately, continued exposure to high-level magnetic fields produced a split personality—the “good” Dr. Emerson and the “evil” Dr. Polaris. As Polaris, he embarked on a career of crime using magnetic technology, battling Green Lantern and later finding a way to internalize his magnetic powers. At one point, trapped in another dimension, his efforts to break free released similar latent powers in Frances Kane, friend of then-Kid Flash Wally West

Over the years, the Polaris and Emerson personalities fought for dominance, until Polaris was approached by the devil Neron. In essence, Polaris sold Neron Emerson’s soul in exchange for simply being rid of the other side of his personality.
